Making Connections
Text (quote from book):
"NERVOUS PIANIST: I'm afraid there's a mistake somewhere. What are you singing? HARRIS (promptly): Why the Judge's song out of Trial by Jury. Don't you know it? SOME FRIEND OF HARRIS'S (from the back of the room): No, you're not, you chuckle- head, you're singing the Admiral's song from Pinafore." (pg. 61)
Text to Text:
This part of the novel reminded me of City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. One character was reciting his poetry and was clueless about what he was saying. He was just combining large words and calling it his poetry. Harris is in a very similar situation.
Text (quote from book):
"'Walligford lock! they answered. 'Lor' love you, sir, that's been done away with for over a year. There ain't no Wallingford lock now, sir. You're close to Cleeve now. Blow me tight if 'ere ain't a gentleman been looking for Wallingford lock, Bill!' (pg. 78)
Text to self:
This text reminds me of a personal experience that I had when I was 6 years old. I went on a family trip to an island. My mother had heard about a beautiful place to visit from one of her friends. We kept searching for the place around the area and when we asked a person about it, he said that the place had been closed down. My experience is quite similar to J's experience.
